Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about estimates, permits, utilities and how jobs run.
What does Sac Excavation do?
We do excavation, site grading and pad preparation, trenching, foundation and basement excavation, drainage and French drains, land clearing, driveway and retaining wall excavation, septic system excavation, demolition-site prep, and material hauling and placement. The final scope for any job is confirmed in a written estimate.
What areas do you serve?
The Sacramento region, including Sacramento, Elk Grove, Roseville, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Citrus Heights, Davis, West Sacramento, Rocklin, Lincoln, El Dorado Hills, Natomas, Galt and the Placerville foothills.
How do I get an estimate?
Use the request form on the contact page or call. Share the address, the type of work, a rough size and your timeline. Photos or plans help. We confirm scope and reply with next steps and a written estimate.
How much will my project cost?
It depends on access, soil, volume, haul distance, rock or hardpan, groundwater, permits and scope. We do not quote prices without seeing the job. Our cost guide explains what drives the number so you can compare written estimates fairly.
Do I need a permit for grading or excavation?
Often some kind of permit or approval is involved, but permit requirements vary by city and county and by the size and location of the work. Confirm with your city or county before work starts.
Do you call 811 before digging?
California requires contacting USA North 811 before digging, at least two working days ahead, so underground utilities can be marked. A responsible excavation job starts there.
Can you work during the rainy season?
Some work can continue in wet weather and some cannot. Clay soil that is saturated is hard to dig, haul and compact, and erosion control becomes a bigger part of the job. We plan around the weather and tell you what makes sense.
Do you handle drainage problems?
Yes. Drainage is part of grading and trenching work, including French drains, swales and outlets. Good drainage starts with understanding where the water comes from and where it can go.
What should I have ready before the site visit?
The property address, any plans or surveys, photos of the area, permit information if you have it, and the location of known utilities, septic or wells. Tell us about gates, slopes and access too.
How long has Sac Excavation been in business?
More than 15 years.
